SLUGS — Edinburgh Fringe Review
"Slugs... I fucking hate slugs!" I couldn't disagree more! The chaotic duo called Creepy Boys, Sam Kruger & S E Grummet, take us on a manic ride using their DJ decks, projection, puppetry skills, and their in your face clowning techniques. All the theatrics and more with their own twists!
After their slug-like entrance (they literally pretended to be slugs) and their silly costume reveal we are soon swooshed into a Peaches-like track explaining that "this show is about nothing". Kruger and Grummet pose the question of nothing or something? Something vs nothing! Nothing into something! And something into nothing.
Of course this play is far from nothing! With themes of queerness, trans identity and cancel-culture I couldn't help but wonder if this show was merely interrogating current media trends and affairs or if it was more a direct statement about what's happening across the Atlantic, could be both I'll leave you to make your own interpretation!
The end of this rollercoaster asks if this is what the Guardian wants now? Having not seen their previous show, also called 'Creepy Boys', I cannot say if 'SLUGS' is a continuation of that. But what I can tell you is that this show is brilliantly executed and that they are bringing 'Creepy Boys' back to the UK this year, stay tuned on their insta @thecreepyboys.
